In the “Official Catalog of the Exhibition of the German Reich” for the Vienna World Exhibition, for example, the following entry can be found on page 459 under serial number 43:

"43. Siemens u. Halske, Berlin. - Stationary device for generating electric light, consisting of a large machine, a small dynamo-electric machine, an electric lamp with Fresnel lenses; complete mobile device for electric lighting."

While Werner von Siemens did not yet want to devote himself to electric street lighting, Emil Rathenau saw that the time had come and made a start. Eight years later, in 1881, he began to implement his plans step by step.
