The Oberspree power plant in Elektropolis is just one of many AEG power plants. You don't have to think about it for long: Almost every Berlin district has its own combined heat and power plant. In the heart of the city, the Moabit and Charlottenburg combined heat and power plants are still a reminder of those days. The Klingenberg power station in Berlin-Rummelsburg still bears the name of the ingenious electrical engineer and AEG board member Georg Klingenberg, who built numerous power stations together with his brother, the architect Walter Klingenberg. The Berlin combined heat and power plants in Marzahn, Lichterfelde, Mitte, Adlershof, Wilmersdorf and Ruhleben were built much later. Only the large West Berlin combined heat and power plant Reuter was connected to the grid as early as 1931 as “Kraftwerk West”. At that time, Bewag commissioned Siemens-Schuckertwerke to build the power plant in Siemensstadt.

Below you can see the Charlottenburg combined heat and power plant from different perspectives. Nearby is Charlottenburg Palace with its extensive palace gardens.
