The Oberspree cable factory is built. After a short construction period, it is ready for occupancy in 1897 and is put into operation together with the Oberspree power station, which was also completed in 1897. At this time, Oberschöneweide was still barely developed. This is where AEG finds the production space that it can no longer use in the increasingly densely populated inner-city districts. Located directly on the banks of the Spree, Oberschöneweide has its “own waterway connection” and jetty for heavy goods traffic. Heavy loads such as building materials, raw materials, coal, fuels and other bulk goods can be easily transported, reloaded and loaded via the Spree. Production goods and heavy loads can be loaded just as quickly and delivered all over the world.
